Iterated Bernstein operators for distribution function and density estimation: Balancing between the number of iterations and the polynomial degree

چکیده

Despite its slow convergence, the use of the Bernstein polynomial approximation is becoming more frequent in Statistics, especially for density estimation of compactly supported probability distributions. This is due to its numerous attractive properties, from both an approximation (uniform shape-preserving approximation, etc.) and a statistical (bona fide estimation, low boundary bias, etc.) point of view. An original method for estimating distribution functions and densities with Bernstein polynomials is proposed, which takes advantage of results about the eigenstructure of the Bernstein operator to refine a convergence acceleration method. Furthermore, an original adaptative method for choosing the degree of the polynomial is worked out. The method is successfully applied to two data-sets which are important benchmarks in the field of Density Estimation.

Application of iterated Bernstein operators to distribution function and density approximation

We propose a density approximation method based on Bernstein polynomials, consisting in superseding the classical Bernstein operator by a convenient number I∗ of iterates of a closely related operator. We mainly tackle two difficulties met in processing real data, sampled on some mesh XN . The first one consists in determining an optimal sub-mesh XK∗ , in order that the operator associated with...

Iterated Bernstein polynomial approximations

Iterated Bernstein polynomial approximations of degree n for continuous function which also use the values of the function at i/n, i = 0, 1, . . . , n, are proposed. The rate of convergence of the classic Bernstein polynomial approximations is significantly improved by the iterated Bernstein polynomial approximations without increasing the degree of the polynomials. The same idea applies to the...

On the approximation by Chlodowsky type generalization of (p,q)-Bernstein operators

In the present article, we introduce Chlodowsky variant of $(p,q)$-Bernstein operators and compute the moments for these operators which are used in proving our main results. Further, we study some approximation properties of these new operators, which include the rate of convergence using usual modulus of continuity and also the rate of convergence when the function $f$ belongs to the class Li...

Parameter Estimation of Some Archimedean Copulas Based on Minimum Cramér-von-Mises Distance

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new estimation method for estimating the Archimedean copula dependence parameter in the non-parametric setting. The estimation of the dependence parameter has been selected as the value that minimizes the Cramér-von-Mises distance which measures the distance between Empirical Bernstein Kendall distribution function and true Kendall distribution functi...

Estimation of 3D density distribution of chromites deposit using gravity data

We inverse the surface gravity data to recover subsurface 3D density distribution with two strategy. In the first strategy, we assumed wide density model bound for inverting gravity data and In the second strategy, the inversion procedure have been carried out by limited bound density. Wediscretize the earth model into rectangular cells of constant andunidentified density. The number of cells i...
